VGTU is one of the two technical universities in Lithuania and only one technical university in Vilnius, the capital city of Lithuania. Our University was established in 1956 as Vilnius Department of Kaunas Polytechnic Institute. In 1969 it was reorganised into Vilnius Civil Engineering Institute, acquired the status and title of Vilnius Technical University in 1990, and was renamed to Vilnius Gediminas Technical University in 1997. The name of Gediminas was given to the University in honour of the Great Duke of Lithuania Gediminas, who is considered to be the founder of Vilnius (in 1323). Rector assisted by four Vice-Rectors and Chancellor governs the University. The highest decision making body is University Senate.

The city you may reach by bus or taxi. From the Vilnius Airport (stop "Oro uostas") express bus line No 3G (http://stops.lt/vilnius/#expressbus/3g/b-a/2613/en in approx 26 min will take you to Vilnius center stop "Europos aikštė" (in the other side of the road you will see the Best Western Vilnius Hotel). Taxi will take you to the city centre.
